The Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI) works with groups in
developing countries such as Bangladesh and Uganda who are
supporting survivors of corrosive acid attacks, giving them the
confidence to become respected and useful members of society;
lobbying for greater restrictions in the sale of acid, punishment of
perpetrators, and social condemnation of this and other forms of
violence. The volunteers who work for ASTI also arrange for UK burns
specialists to support such groups by volunteering to use their
skills to alleviate the ravages of acid burns and at the same time,
where possible, to train their local counterparts. For more
